Get Started on 10GHz

In the August-2007 edition of Radcom a modern approach to getting quickly started on 10GHz DX was published. RSGB has kindly let us put the full article online:

WA5VJB 2-6GHz Log-Periodic Antennas

Kent Britain WA5VJB has spent many hours working on PCB Antennas, both Log Periodic ( - ideal for multi-band dish feeds) and Patch designs. The original log periodic model shown below has performance peaks at the 2.3, 3.4 and 5.7GHz bands. In the picture it is shown in a rather neat and durable assembly by PA5DD - inside a sealed plastic container. This original design has been superceded by the newer LPY4 model.

UKuG no longer directly stock these. Sam Jewell G4DDK is the local contact for them. Sam's website has a special PCB Antenna page which covers these.

1kHz Amplitude Modulated Gunn Diode for 10GHz Measurements

This unit was designed by David Wrigley (Scatterpoint-6) to be used with the level meter by Roger Blackwell (Scatterpoint-4 & 5). They can be used with great effect to measure and hence improve antenna performance - see Kent Britain WA5VJB article in Scatterpoint-1. Other info, Software, PCB and Component layouts etc are available through this link:

Latest Version of the 12GHz Prescaler design

This is the very latest version, using the Hittite prescaler, and with a preamp/limiter to improve sensitivity and protect the device. Tests at Martlesham showed good operation from 1GHz (and below) up to 14GHz - 12-Nov-2001

Tuned Audio Level Meter for RF Measurements

This unit was designed by Roger Blackwell and can be used instead of the HP415 signal level meter (Scatterpoint-4 and 5). It can be used with great effect to measure and hence improve antenna performance - see Kent Britain WA5VJB article in Scatterpoint-1.
